Police in Kampala on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025 recovered a stolen vehicle using Intelligent Transport System (ITMS) which was stolen by unknown people a day earlier.
According to Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police and Road Safety spokesperson, on 26th May 2025, Toyota Fielder with digital number UA812AW was stolen from Buloba, Kampala, along Mityana Road.
He says the case was immediately registered at police by the vehicle owner.
Kananura adds that the police officer who received the report alerted officers. Through real-time tracking, the system successfully located the stolen vehicle near Ntawo in Mukono, at geographical coordinates latitude 0.392533 and longitude 32.736718.
“We commend the swift coordination between the public, and Uganda police that led to this successful recovery. We urge the public to always report such incidents promptly to the nearest police station to facilitate immediate tracking & recovery,” Mr. Kananura said.
Suzan Kataike the head communication at the ministry of works and transport says Intelligent Transport System (ITMS) is not only instrumental in improving road safety but also plays a vital role in enhancing public security & combating vehicle-related crimes.
She urged the public to embrace the Intelligent Transport System (ITMS) by installing digital number plates to their vehicles and motorcycles.
