As Uganda embarks on national mass enrolment and renewal exercise for National IDs, NIRA has guided adults who will be registering for the first time but don’t have IDs of any of their parents.
According to NIRA, adults registering for the first time will only require a photocopy of a parent’s National ID.
However, in the rare circumstance that none of the parents IDs is available, a new adult applicant shall have to present at least one ID photocopy from any of the four grandparents.
If the grandparents IDs are also not available, then the applicant is required to present a photocopy ID of one of the blood relatives descending from the grandparents.
In all the two circumstances, the applicant will also have to present a letter from the LC1 Chairman, Parish Chief or LC3 endorsed by GISO, DISO, or RDC.
NIRA further encourages all eligible citizens to participate in the upcoming Nationwide Mass Enrollment & Renewal Exercise as Uganda continues to strengthen national identity systems for inclusive growth and access to services.
