The Electoral Commission has announced today, June 10, 2025, as the final day for the nomination exercise for village committee elections for Special Interest Groups including youths, persons with disabilities, and older persons.
The announcement was made by Mr. Julius Mucunguzi, the spokesman for the Electoral Commission, revealing that the nominations started on June 2 and will end today.
“Today is the final day for nomination of candidates who want to contest, participate, and offer themselves to lead and be part of village committees for the youths, people with disabilities, and older persons,” Mr. Mucunguzi informed the general public.
He noted that the Electoral Commission offices at sub-county headquarters or Division Wards and Town Councils across the country will be open from 9:00 a.m- 5:00 p.m. to facilitate the nomination process.
“To participate in the village committee elections, a youth must be between 18 and 30 years old, while older persons must be 60 years and above. Persons with disabilities must meet specific criteria outlined in the law.
Mucunguzi reiterated the importance of participating in the electoral process, stating that: “Your vote is your voice.” The special interest group elections are critical, as they mark the beginning of the 2025-2026 general elections roadmap.
Mr. Mucunguzi added that after these nominations, the campaign period will run from June 12 to June 14, followed by the elections on June 16, 17, and 19 for older persons, persons with disabilities, and youths respectively.
