The Government of Uganda has made a significant contribution of 300 million shillings towards the construction of an ICT hub at Mbale Secondary School.

This contribution was announced by President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday, 14th June, 2025 in a speech read by Florence Nambozo, the Sironko district woman MP and Minister for Karamoja Affairs, during the school’s 75th-anniversary celebrations.

The school organized a fundraising drive, aiming to raise 4 billion shillings for the ICT hub project, which aims to enhance science studies.

President Museveni, in his message, encouraged schools and institutions of higher learning to embrace science to advance the country’s development.

Moses Buyela, the head teacher of Mbale Secondary School, stated that the school will lobby for additional funds from development partners, corporate companies, and alumni.

He added that construction will commence as soon as half of the required funds are raised.

Connie Galiwango Nakayenze, the Mbale City Woman MP, expressed concern over the government’s exclusion of arts teachers from salary increments urging the government to consider increasing their salaries.

Centenary Bank, Mbale branch, also contributed 2 million shillings towards the ICT hub project.

Annet Nandelenga, the bank’s manager, encouraged other banks and corporate companies to emulate Centenary Bank’s gesture to support the initiative, which will benefit the Bugisu region.
