Police in the district of Nwoya have recovered an SMG rifle that goat thieves had been using to terrorize the local community and surrounding areas.

According to a police statement, the operation was carried out on June 14, 2025, in Paminyai Sub County, Nwoya District.

Preliminary intelligence from informants in Nyamukino and Gotapwoyo villages indicated to police that a white Ipsum vehicle, registration number UAP 032E, was transporting 11 suspected stolen goats and had been intercepted by local residents.

Police responded promptly and arrested Omony Dicken, a 28-year-old broker from Pece-Laroo Division in Gulu City.

During interrogation, the suspect led officers to the recovery of the SMG rifle, which was found hidden in the bush near an electric pole in Purongo Sub County, Nwoya District. The firearm was recovered without ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects and accomplices involved in the case.
