A tragic incident occurred in Namisindwa district on Tuesday, 1st July, 2025 where a 59-year-old man hacked his nephew over a land dispute.
The deceased, identified as Ivan Futsaka, 29, was allegedly attacked by his uncle, Yowana Namakwa, 59, a resident of Namwenula Cell, Namwenula Ward, Bumbo Town Council.
According to eyewitnesses, the dispute arose when Namakwa accused Futsaka of trespassing on his land and digging beyond the boundary.
During an argument, Namakwa allegedly hit Futsaka on the head with a hoe, resulting in his instant death.
The local community was shocked by the incident, and authorities have condemned the violence.
Julie Namara, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner, urged people involved in land disputes to seek resolution through the courts or local leaders rather than taking the law into their own hands.
By the time the news was reported, Namakwa, the suspect, had fled to neighboring Kenya, while the deceased’s body had been taken to Namakwa’s home.
