JUST IN: Niger Arrives in Uganda Ahead of CHAN Championship

A squad of 23 players from Niger Football Club plus their coaching staff and team officials arrived in Uganda this afternoon July 29,2025 ahead of the belated 2024 CHAN Championship slated to begin early next month in August.

 

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, the team was received by FUFA third Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi. Before boarding the waiting bus, the team was first entertained by traditional cultural dancers who caused stampede at the arrival section.

 

Later the visiting team was driven to Protea Skyz hotel in Naguru, Kampala where they will camp throughout the group stages of the tournament.

 

The tournament is hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and will run from 2- 30 August 2025. The tournament involves only players who play in their domestic leagues.

 

Uganda is in group C alongside Algeria, Niger, South Africa and Guinea.

 

Uganda’s opening match will be on the 4th August 2025 against Algeria -Desert Foxes.

 

All the group C matches will be played at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) with different training grounds at Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium, FUFA Kadiba grounds, Kyambogo University playgrounds and the outside training ground at Namboole.

 

Hosted across the vibrant East African nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, this eighth edition of CHAN will feature 19 national teams made up exclusively of players competing in their home leagues. It’s a celebration of local talent, national pride, and the beautiful game – African style.
