SIRONKO
The Sironko district National Resistance Movement (NRM) party is holding fresh elections for the district youth chairperson position today, Monday, 11th August, 2025.
The previous election, which took place on Friday, 8th August, 2025, turned chaotic, resulting in injuries to some voters.
The chaos erupted when one of the contestants, Cyrus Wangenga Mafabi, accused the electoral commission of excluding his voters from the polling venue.
Despite the commotion, the election proceeded, and James Kadoli emerged victorious unopposed. However, the Sironko district NRM administrator, Wilson Wambaka, claimed that the election was null and void due to violence and no party officer witnessed.
Other candidates who were elected on that same day are Mary Nabukwasi as Vice Chairperson, Ben Nabutiri as General Secretary, John Naketi as Publicity Secretary, and Doreen Namono as Secretary for Female Affairs.
According to Milton Mafabi, the Sironko district NRM registrar, the previous election was canceled because the registrar mandated to conduct the elections was absent.
He stated that the fresh elections would take place at the district party office, and all candidates are waiting to participate.
