MBALE CITY

The new Mbale City Resident City Commissioner (RCC), George William Wopuwa, has pledged to restore security in the city and increase President Museveni’s votes in the 2026 general election.

Wopuwa made this commitment today Tuesday, 12th August, 2025 in the afternoon during his first media address after assuming office.

Wopuwa identified areas such as Nabuyonga, Mugisu Hill, and Namatala among others as security hotspots and vowed to work with the police and local leaders to restore peace and security.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring citizens feel safe.

Wopuwa attributed President Museveni’s less than 30% vote share in Mbale City in previous elections to a lack of effective communication about the president’s achievements.

He pledged to rectify this by highlighting the president’s good work and aiming to increase the president’s vote percentage in the city as the elections approach.

Wopuwa was recently transferred from Mbale district as Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to Mbale City, replacing Asumin Nasike, who was transferred to Fort Portal City.
