Police have started an investigation into an accident that occurred today Thursday morning, 28th August, 2025 at Namumira railway crossing in Mukono district involving a Trinity express bus and a Uganda railway passenger train.
According to Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident happened when the bus registration number RAH 629B driven by Bulya Erat failed to stop at the railway crossing point and was struck by train registration number 73U32 operated by Henry Munyarurembo.
“The train damaged the rear part of the bus but fortunately no lives were lost and no injuries were reported,” Onyango said.
He says police responded promptly to the scene, took statements from witnesses and are conducting further investigations. The bus, the train and the operator were taken to Uganda railway offices in Kyetume where the driver is assisting with ongoing inquiries.
Onyango cautioned drivers to exercise maximum vigilance when approaching Railway crossings.
“We want to remind all motorists that overspreading and failure to observe traffic rules have serious consequences. Divers must adhere safety guidelines especially while crossing railway points to avoid accidents,” Onyango said.
