There was shock in Nasenyi village, Kabwangasi sub-county, Butebo district on Sunday, 7th September, 2025 after relatives of a woman killed a year ago murdered their son law in retaliation.
The body of Ali Kalikeko, approximately 40 years old, was found with deep cuts on the neck and head, and his hands tied behind his back with a rope.
According to Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, Kalikeko was allegedly killed by relatives of his wife, whom he murdered about a year ago.
He says the relatives had been searching for him, and it’s suspected they tracked him down and exacted revenge.
Kyempasa says a team of detectives, led by the District Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer, visited the crime scene and documented evidence.
He says the body was retrieved and taken to Mbale Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination. No arrests have been made yet, and investigations are ongoing.
Kyempasa condemned the act of mob justice, emphasizing that it hinders investigations and is not a solution to problem-solving. The police urge the public to report cases to the relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
This incident highlights the need for communities to prioritize reporting crimes to the authorities, rather than resorting to vigilantism. The police are working to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such incidents do not recur in the area.
