KATAKWI

A police officer from Odoom police station in Guyaguya sub-county, Usuk County, Katakwi District, has shot a suspect to death.

Simon Peter Elangot, a 28-year-old resident of Odoom Village Guya Guya sub-county in Katakwi district, was shot in the stomach exposing his intestines by Head Constable Major Bonny Olok, OC station Odoom Police Post in Katakwi District.

It’s alleged that he was shot because of girlfriend because the deceased and a police officer fought over a girlfriend whose names have not yet been revealed.

A “Head Constable Major” is a police rank in the Uganda Police Force that acts as an administrative role for officers in charge of discipline and lower-level command. The rank was reestablished by the Inspector General of Police in 2018 after being discontinued in 2004, and it is used to cover leadership shortages and combat indiscipline at the force’s lowest administrative levels.

Superintendent of Police, Jude Nansuch, District Police Officer Katakwi Police Station, revealed that the event occurred on Saturday morning, 13th September, 2025 at around 9:00 a.m., when the suspect attempted to flee from arrest following an alleged complaint of grievous harm filed at the Odoom Police Station.

According to the deceased’s brother, Paul Ocero, also known as Papa Mayor, his brother was slain as a result of an altercation that occurred after the police officer was caught with the deceased’s girlfriend two weeks ago.

The clan of Ikocila Ikarebwok is dissatisfied, ignoring any criminal case involving the deceased and requesting government assistance in the situation because the deceased had no case other than a fight when the two met in his girlfriend’s house.

By press time, Ibrahim Seiga, Regional Police Commander RPC East Kyoga, stated that the report was incomplete since police personnel were still compiling it before commenting.

Meanwhile, Charles Ongoletum, the LCIII chairperson Guya Guya sub county, has asked citizens to heed police instructions and avoid resisting arrest in order to prevent losing lives.
