After marathon consultation of eleven days in Teso sub region on a proposal to rehabilitate Teso households with about 2-5 cattle, the committee headed by Her excellency Rtd. Maj. Jessca Alupo has handed the report to H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for consideration and onward action.
The committee carried out the consultations following the presidential directive to consult people.
The Presidential Cattle Rehabilitation Committee on Wednesday 17th September 2025 handed over their report to H.E YK Museveni.
The 10-member committee constituted by Retired Major Alupo engaged in consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, including: – Religious and Cultural Leaders, Women and Youth groups, Entrepreneurs, Veterans, Security Personnel, LC-V & LC3 Chairpersons plus their Councilors, Opinion Leaders, and Petitioners for 11-days.
According to the committee, all groups strongly backed the proposal to provide livestock to households that lost cattle during past conflicts and Insurgencies in Teso Sub-Region.
The cattle compensation and rehabilitation Programme forms part of the government’s broader effort to address historical grievances in Teso and neighboring regions, where decades of insurgencies and livestock raids impoverished many households.
Among other key resolutions made during the consultation include rehabilitating Teso with mode pay on cash equivalent to five cows and each cow was rated between Ugx 1.5 to Ugx 2 million , with proposal pay mode of Social assistance grant for elderly (SAGE).
