National Unity Platform, (NUP) Party presidential flagbearer becomes the fourth candidate to be cleared by the Electoral Commission.

This was revealed by the Party’s Secretary General, David Rubongoya while addressing the media today, Monday, 22nd September, 2025 shortly after picking the  nomination clearance certificate from the Electoral Commission offices.

He now joins NRM’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, FDC’s Nathan Nandala and Independent Joseph Male Mabirizi.

The Electoral Commission had on Friday,19th September refused to clear NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi on grounds that signatures from 38 districts were incomplete mostly because of duplicate endorsement of presidential aspirants.

NUP immediately sent out SOS to their supporters in the affected 38 districts to travel to Kampala on Saturday, 20th September to append their signatures on Voter support lists, a move that apparently paid off.

Rubongoya while excitedly waving the clearance certificate says EC cleared them after successfully submitting the required endorsement signatures from across the country.

Rubongoya also announced a change in the nomination date for their presidential candidate, from Tuesday September 23 to Wednesday 24th September, 2025 at 2PM.

“We have received a communication from the EC Chairperson, informing us that our candidate will be nominated on Wednesday, 24th at 2:00 PM,” said Rubongoya insisting that this move was stop NUP from holding two rallies as earlier scheduled.
