KATAKWI
Residents of Omodoi Sub County in Katakwi district were shocked to return from their gardens on the morning of September 30, 2025, to discover a mother lying in a pool of blood, slashed to death, with her two-month-old baby lying by.
Teddy Ijongat, a resident of Akimit village, Omodoi parish, Omodoi Sub County, was hacked to death with an axe on her head by her ex-Concubine, Charles Eduwan of the same region, because she opted to return to her marital home after leaving him.
The event occurred at 8:00 a.m. while Ijongat was on her way to take her two-months-old infant for routine immunization at Omodoi Health Center II.
Richard Adenya and Teddy Ijongat recently separated due to extramarital escapades, and his wife Ijongat chose to get a concubine named Charles Eduwan; however, after a clan meeting, Adenya and Ijongat reconciled and she returned to their marital home.
According to John Aporu, LC III chairperson of Omodoi Sub County, murder cases are on the rise, with around four incidents documented in the last four years.
He attributed the rise in cases to disregard of marital vows, resulting in extramarital relationships, poverty as some families have failed to fulfill basic necessities, and family squabbles that cause misunderstandings.
Some residents, including Joseph Okiror of Abule village, claim that Eduwan had harshly warned and threatened to kill Ijongat because of the clan’s decision to return to her matrimonial home.
According to villagers, the suspected culprit is a marijuana addict who murdered his wife years ago when he returned from Kampala amid reports of his wife’s illicit marriage with another guy in the area.
The suspect was apprehended by Katakwi Central Police Station officers and is now in Katakwi CPS custody, while the deceased body is being held at Katakwi General Hospital mortuary.
