Uganda Shines at 2025 Digital Government Africa Summit, Chosen to Host Next Event

Uganda has been chosen to host the Digital Government Africa Summit 2026 after exhibiting excellent presentation at the 9th October, 2025 Summit held in Lusaka, Zambia.

 

The announcement was coincidentally made as Uganda celebrated its 63rd Independence Day at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

 

The Summit chaired by His Excellency, Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia brought together over 56 African governments and a number of industry players to forge a way for digitally integrated Africa.

 

The Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA) is the continent’s premier ministerial platform dedicated to advancing public-sector digital transformation. It provides a space for policymakers, innovators, and private-sector leaders to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, and align national initiatives with the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030).

 

“I was privileged to participate in the digital Government summit 2025 that was officially opened by his Excellence Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia,” says Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance.

 

The summit brought together over 56 African governments and a number of industry players to forge a way for digitally integrated Africa. The announcement was made as Uganda celebrated its 63rd Independence day.

 

NITA-U’s has been instrumental in presenting the case for Digital Government African to be hosted in Uganda. This has been through its close collaboration and participation with Africabrians behind this initiative.

 

The Ugandan delegation was led by Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, alongside Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs.

 

Other Ugandan delegates included: Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director, National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U); Ms. Rosemary Kisembo, Executive Director, National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA); Mr. Ambrose Ruyooka, Acting Commissioner for ICT Research and Development, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Ms Gloria Katuuku Director of Planning Research and Development NITA-U.
