Makindye West Member of Parliament, Allan Ssewanyana, has officially announced his intention to seek re-election in the 2026 parliamentary elections, despite not receiving the endorsement of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Ssewanyana made the declaration on Wednesday 15th October 2025 during a thanksgiving Mass held at Nsambya Gardens, led by Fr. Joseph Kasasa.

The event, which drew a large crowd of supporters, underscored the legislator’s enduring grassroots popularity in the constituency.

A two-term MP, Ssewanyana expressed disappointment over NUP’s internal vetting process, which saw the party flag awarded to Zahara Luyirika instead.

“It’s unfortunate that even after answering all the vetting questions well and having strong support on the ground, my party did not give me the card,” said Ssewanyana.

Despite the setback, he assured his supporters of his continued political journey, stating that he will return to the ballot in 2026. However, he did not disclose which political platform he would use.
