EC Speaks On Nomination of Candidates for Elections of MPs Representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs), 2026

The Electoral Commission has issued a statement giving the latest guidelines on nomination of candidates for elections of MPs representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs), 2026.

 

The statement issued on Monday, 20th October, 2025 by the EC Chairperson, Justice Byabakama confirms that the dates for nomination of SIGs are Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025.

In line with Section 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177, the Electoral Commission appointed Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025, as the dates for nomination of candidates for election of Member of Parliament representing the following Special Interest Groups (SIGs):

 

  1. Older Persons.
  2. Persons with Disabilities;
  3. Workers; and,
  4. Youths;

 

The nominations shall be conducted at the Electoral Commission Headquarters, located at Plot 1-3/5 Seventh Street, Industrial Area, Kampala, and shall begin at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm on each of the appointed dates.

 

An aspiring candidate for Member of Parliament shall be a citizen of Uganda and a registered voter, and will be required to fulfill all the requirements for nomination as outlined in the Guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission for each Special Interest Group, that is, Older Persons; Persons with Disabilities; Workers; and Youths.

 

Aspiring candidates can collect copies of the nomination forms and guidelines for nominations for the above elective positions from the Electoral Commission Headquarters in Kampala, or obtain soft copies of the forms and guidelines from the Electoral Commission website: http://ec.or.ug.

 

The Electoral Commission calls upon all stakeholders in the electoral process to take note of these dates and to ensure compliance with the nomination requirements and procedures.
