MBALE CITY
Cure Children’s Hospital, located in the Industrial City Division of Mbale City, has collected 500 million shillings from its Saturday marathon run.
The hospital organized the fundraising event to reach a target of 1 billion shillings, which will support children whose parents cannot afford medical treatment and operation fees.
Cure Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in Africa that treats children with hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and brain tumors. Every year, the hospital organizes a marathon to raise funds for children with related medical conditions.
During the event, Tim Erickson, Executive Director of Mbale Cure Children’s Hospital, revealed that the hospital treated and operated 2,166 children last year.
He explained that many parents from different countries cannot afford the costly medical treatment, which is why the hospital organizes the annual marathon to support children from poor backgrounds.
The Umukuka of Inzu Yamasaba, Mike Mudoma, expressed his gratitude through his Prime Minister, who read his speech, to the cooperating companies and locals for their support and participation in the marathon.
He noted that the Bugisu region is privileged to have this facility and encouraged people to turn out in large numbers for the next marathon.
