MBALE CITY
Hon. Connie Galiwango Nakyenze has duly been nominated by the Mbale City Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Mr. Arineitwe.
Galiwango who camped at the Electoral offices as early as 6:00AM eventually got nominated at 11:00AM after her symbol, the ball that appears on all her posters, was given to another candidate whom she says was sneaked in before her.
“Despite me arriving as early as 6:00AM and having booked 9:00AM as my nomination time, the officials here instead called in another candidate before me and gave him my chosen symbol,” Galiwango later told the media after her nomination.
“Now I have chosen a radio as my symbol, because I am the voice of the Bamasaba. I am here to speak on behalf of the voiceless, so the radio is an appropriate symbol as well, after all people don’t vote for symbols,” she added.
Galiwango who is the incumbent Mbale City Woman MP has vowed to defend her seat arguing that she fought hard for Mbale to attain a City status.
“Mbale City is a still a baby, my baby, allow me to breastfeed it to grow. We need better roads in the outskirts of the Central Business District, so that Mbale City looks like a City that it is,” she says.
She also decried harassment by police that ordered her to dismantle her campaign platform at Children Lions Park forcing her to relocate her post-nomination rally to Mbales S.S Grounds.
