Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Abubakar Jeje Odongo, has officially been nominated to run for the Orungo County Parliamentary Seat in Amuria district as an independent candidate.
Gen. Odongo expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity to return to Orungo County, emphasizing his commitment to unite the community and ensure that every family has the potential to earn between shs5m and shs10m annually.
He highlighted his objective to eliminate grass-thatched huts in the area, aiming for the construction of permanent homes.
Odongo also shared that his manifesto outlines specific strategies for enhancing agriculture, improving the road network, and strengthening the health sector, among other initiatives.
When questioned about his absence from the NRM party primaries, he explained that he was on national duty in China, Russia, and Turkey for three weeks during the NRM nominations, which prevented him from participating. This is why he is now contesting as an independent candidate.
On the second day of nominations, several candidates were announced, including NRM’s Samuel Ediau for Amuria County, NUP’s Moses Ariong for Amuria County, IND Sarah Specioza Abeja for woman MP, and NRM’s Margaret Etilu.
The nominated candidates or their chief agents are expected to convene at the EC Offices in Amuria for a collaborative campaign program, as stated by the EC District Returning Officer, Daniel Othieno Kiracho.
Those who were nominated on the first day include NRM’s Teddy Anyuk Osire for Orungo County, IND Joseph Epilu for Amuria County, IND Musa Francis Ecweru for Amuria County, FDC’s Debora Mary Aleo for woman MP, FDC’s Samuel Olinga for Amuria County, and FDC’s Fred Eseru for Orungo County.
