BUTEBO
The Butebo District Electoral Commission office has reported a theft of electoral materials, including six lamps, valued at 150,000 shillings each.
According to Orichom John, the Election Assistant/Secretary attached to Butebo District Electoral Commission, the incident occurred at the commission’s office, which is being renovated by the landlord, Mrs. Mwanamoiza Kikomeko Margaret.
The materials, received on November 9, 2025, were kept in a room within the premises. On November 21, 2025, painters removed the materials to paint the room and returned them in the evening. Orichom then locked the room without checking the materials.
Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson says on November 27, 2025, the reporter and office attendant discovered that six lamps were missing. Police have opened a case file, visited the scene, and are continuing investigations.
He says the police note that the painters, who are residents of Kampala, were contracted by the landlord and are not known to the electoral commission officials.
