PWDs Call for Financial Inclusion Ahead of International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Minister of State for Disability Affairs, Hellen Grace Asamo has called on financial institutions across the country to prioritize strategies that promote the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the financial sector, saying that equal access to financial services is a fundamental right for every citizen.

 

She echoed the call while speaking during the 5th National Disability Symposium, ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Kampala on Tuesday 2nd December under the theme “Financial Inclusion: A Key to Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, “focusing on the role of inclusive financial systems in fostering economic participation and social equality for PWDs.

 

She said that PWDs in Uganda have repeatedly called for special consideration in financial inclusion, and employment opportunities and effective policy implementation to ensure disability-inclusive financial planning.

 

Representatives from various financial institutions who attended the symposium shared initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and inclusivity for persons with disabilities acknowledging the need for stronger commitment and structural reforms.

 

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, will be commemorated on Wednesday 3rd December 2025 in Mubende District under the theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.”
