The Electoral Commission has nullified the nomination of Patrick Mutabwire who was contesting for Member of Parliament for Older Persons, Western Region against Jacqueline Mbabazi leaving the latter unopposed.

Mbabazi joins Ms Nyamutoro who is the wife of musician Edirisa Musuza aka Eddy Kenzo and a list of more than 16 Members of Parliament who are all NRM- leaning that have so far been declared unopposed to be members of the 12th Parliament.

These include the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among (Bukedea Woman MP), her Deputy Thomas Tayebwa (Mitooma County legislator).

The denomination follows a complaint lodged by a one Tuhairwe Jackson on 30th October alleging that Mutabwire did not comply with the requirement of submitting a minimum of 10 supporters for nomination because Boyana Benedicto, Muramagi Milton Ssalongo, Nsasira Hope and Kamuza Eldard Behangana had earlier on 22nd October supported the nomination of Mbabazi Jacqueline for the same elective position.

Mbabazi, according to the Electoral Commission, submitted a list of 90 supporters for her nomination that included the four who interestingly also appeared on Mutabwire’s list who was nominated the following day.

“Based on the above observations, the Commission under MIN.COMP/058/2025 resolved that when the names of Boyana Benedicto, Muramagi Milton Ssalongo, Nsasira Hope and Kamuza Eldard Behangana are excluded from the list of supporters that Mutabwire submitted for his nomination, it leaves him with 6 out of the required 10,” reads the EC letter dated 23rd November, 2025.

Consequently, “Mutabwire Patrick Kyamukaate remains with insufficient number of names required to support his nomination. Accordingly, Mutabwire Patrick Kyamukaate stands denominated,” EC’s Justice Byabakama seals the fate of former PS Ministry of Local Government.
