The territorial police in Bugiri have arrested two people found in possession of counterfeit money.
The suspects; Mutale Ali, 49, resident of Nawanyingi, Iganga district and Kyemba Allan, 32, resident of Walugogo in Iganga municipality were on arrested in an intelligence led operation.
On the 12/12/2025 Wazenda Betty 46, a resident of Mugona village, Ndifakulya Parish, in Kapyanga Sub County in Bugiri District, made a report about two men whom she could not identify, that gave her counterfeit notes of Ugandan currency amounting to about three million in pretext that they could give her more.
ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East regional police spokesperson said an operation was conducted and the suspects were successfully apprehended. They were travelling in a Toyota premio motor vehicle Reg. No. UAN 003Y, and upon arrest, it was searched, and items of evidential value were recovered.
It has been established that the suspects are part of the wide counterfeit dollar racket criminal gang in Busoga subregion and beyond.
They have been on the checklist of similar criminal activities in Iganga, Bugweri and Bugiri, where they fleece and rob unsuspecting businessmen of their money.
Further investigations are ongoing to have more suspects apprehended.
Police cautions the public against falling victim to counterfeit currency scams, though they may look real.
