President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has challenged Christians and clergy across the country to actively partner with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government in the fight against household poverty by embracing income-generating activities alongside their spiritual callings.

In a message delivered on his behalf by the Vice President, Rtd. Maj. Jessica Alupo, during the consecration and Enthronement of the 4th Bishop of Busoga Diocese, he called on Christians to emulate Jesus Christ, who, in addition to His pastoral mission, did carpentry urging that every family should have an “Omwooga”—an economic enterprise that generates household income.

President Museveni noted that Uganda continues to face a major economic challenge, with about 33 percent of households still operating under the subsistence economy that only provides food but little or no income.

He highlighted that the NRM administration has laid critical foundations for economic growth, including improved road infrastructure, expanded electricity supply, peace and security, and Uganda’s integration into regional, continental and international markets.

He also commended Church of Uganda for the cordial relationship with government in provision of services through construction of schools and hospitals and pledged continuous support to the church.

In his maiden speech the newly installed Bishop of Busoga diocese Rt. Rev. Can. Ass. Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale pledged a better Busoga Diocese ensuring Evangelism in Busoga and beyond, good governance, accountability, and strengthening of families.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda the Most, Rev. Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu commended the outgoing Bishop, Rt. Rev. Paul Samson Naimanhye Mukembo for his stewardship of Busoga Diocese during his tenure.

He revealed that Busoga is an economic hub endowed with natural resources like River Nile that should be harnessed to fight poverty and unemployment among the youths in the region.

Archbishop Kazimba called for unity and non-violent and peaceful elections come 2026.

The ceremony that marked a significant leadership transition for Busoga Diocese, held at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe was attended by members of the House of Bishops, clergy, religious leaders from different denominations, as well as political and cultural leaders.

Bishop Lubaale replaces Rt. Rev. Paul Naimanhe, who has served as Bishop of Busoga Diocese for the past 10 years.
