SIRONKO

Sironko district council has approved new board members for Bumasifwa Seed School, Masaba Secondary School, and Highway Secondary School.

The names that were presented by Matagalu Nakibumba, the Sironko District Vice Chairperson on Tuesday, 23rd December, 2025 during a council sitting were all approved.

The new board members are; Titus Wombilo (Chairperson), Masoola Francis, Henry Bilabi, and Andrew Nasawali for Bumasifwa seed secondary school.

John Wetaka (Chairperson), Robina Wamanga, Fred Gidongo, Deo Bulafu Nakisa, Samuel Mafabi, and Hadija Nagudi Gidudu for Masaba secondary school.

Gershom Weasa (council representative) for Highway secondary school.

The Bumasifwa board expired two years ago, meaning the school has been operating without a functioning board, which led to a massive strike by students earlier this year, resulting in property worth millions of shillings being destroyed at the school.

The boards of the other two schools had also expired, requiring the district to approve new names before submitting them to the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The Resident District Commissioner, Denis Ephraime Balwaniregha, urged the approved board members to work towards developing the schools, particularly Bumasifwa seed secondary school, which has experienced conflicts due to a non-functioning board.

The newly appointed Chairperson of Bumasifwa seed secondary school, expressed his commitment to improving enrollment, which has dropped from 900 to 500 students due to the lack of a board.
