One Phone Thief Arrested, Three on Run in Butebo over Attempted Murder

Police in Butebo district have arrested one person and the other three are being hunted over allegations of murdering a student.

 

A violent incident occurred in Kasekenyi village, Butebo District, on January 3, 2026, where a 23-year-old student Identified as Lodofiko, Kazaima was attacked and injured by four identified as  Mwerenge, Asuman, Hajji, and Dribble.

 

Fredrick Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson says the victim had gone to Edwine’s home to retrieve his phone, which was stolen the previous day.

 

He says the four suspects allegedly attacked and beat him up then later hacked him with a panga, causing serious injuries on the head.

 

Police have opened a case of attempted murder and arrested only Mwerenge, who was found with a sharp knife at his home. The panga used in the attack was also recovered at his home. The other suspects are still at large, and police are conducting operations to arrest them.

 

Kyempasa says the victim is receiving medical attention, and police are investigating the incident.
