TORORO
The race for Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament is getting uglier every other day with threats manifesting into violence especially against Candidate Shyam Tanna supporters.
The latest act of violence attributed to the incumbent Apollo Yeri Ofwono supporters is the vandalization of Shyam Tanna’s Mobilization Van in the early hours of Wednesday, 7th January, 2026.
The van was attacked and vandalized at Mile One by goons suspected to be Apollo Yeri’s supporters.
Relatedly, a diehard supporter of Shyam Tanna only identified as Swib, a resident of Bison B Maguire was attacked by goons and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
These attacks according to a source are not random but follow the sectarian cue being peddled by Apollo Yeri himself and a section of his campaign agents.
Ofwono himself says Bahindi should be chased away from Tororo politics for good saying even those behind the Muhindi should come back home.
“How many Indians are voters in Tororo, how can we Africans vote for a Muhindi,” Ofwono was heard in one video telling prospective voters during one of his campaign trails.
The politics has not only gone sectarian but criminal as well with a group of gangs moving around Tororo Municipality tearing down Shaym Tanna’s posters every night.
The race for Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament Seat has not only gotten hotter, animated but ugly as well with sectarian undertones taking center stage.
The two horse race has incumbent and NRM Flagbearer, Apollo Yeri Ofwono and youthful Shyam Tanna, a PLU leaning candidate largely seen as the voice of the oppressed and a deprived youthful population.
Ofwono is a Japadhola whereas Shyam is a Tororo born Ugandan of Indian descent and son to Sanjay Tanna, a two term Legislator employing thousands of Ugandans in his companies that are spread throughout Eastern Uganda and beyond.
