Two fraudsters masquerading as NIRA staff have today, Thursday, January 8, 2026 been arrested in the act of scamming people who were lining up for NIRA Services at the  Kampala Central Division Office.

The duo taking advantage of the long lines of people waiting for their turn to pick their cards in the ongoing mass enrolment and mass renewal exercise allegedly kept asking people for Kitu Kidogo to fast track the process.

Two men, dressed with the confidence of seasoned Registration Assistants had inserted themselves into the crowd where they whispered promises of “fast processing” and “quick card pickup,” moving from one hopeful face to another.

Unfortunately for them, Kampala Central is no cinema hall for fiction- citizens they targeted were sharper than expected and oblivious to them there was reinforcement at the center.

Instead of opening their wallets, citizens opened quietly tipped off NIRA officials who joined the crowd.

“The moment the fake officers sensed trouble, one tried to stroll away casually, while the other attempted a Fast & Furious-style escape,” reads a NIRA statement.

NIRA reminds the public that Mass enrolment and mass renewal services are completely free of charge.

There is no fast tracking, no special connections, and absolutely no middlemen. Anyone asking for money in exchange for NIRA services is a fraudster and should be reported immediately.
