President Museveni Declares Two Days of Public Holidays Ahead of General Elections

As the country prepares for the highly contested 2026 general elections, the president of Uganda also a presidential candidate Gen.Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, has declared 15th and 16 the January,2026 as public days to enable the electorate vote candidates of their choice .

 

According to his notice dated January 8,2026, president Museveni says the Public Holidays Act (CAP.174) mandates him to make such declaration.

 

His declaration for the public Holidays Act dated January 8,2026 reads in parts:

 

 

“Declaration of Public Holidays(Under Section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act, Cap. 174). IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred upon the President by Section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act, I declare 15th and 16th January, 2026 to be observed as public holidays throughout Uganda for the purpose of enabling citizens to participate in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, ” President Museveni made his declaration.
