The Entebbe Division B Mayoral hopeful, John Socrates Mugabi is under house arrest after soldiers armed to the teeth besieged his home in Lugonjo zone last night on January 19, 2026.
The masked soldiers raided his home last night at around 10:00PM on suspicion that the mayoral hopeful who subscribes to the National Unity Platform (NUP) was mobilizing the youth to stage a procession to celebrate a court victory after market vendors won Entebbe municipal council over unfair allocation of lockup shops in Kitooro Taxi Park.
In a phone interview with Mugabi, he said he has credible information indicating that mayor Fabrice Rulinda has an upper in his house arrest. However, when this reporter approached Mayor Fabrice Rulinda for a comment, he denied having anything with Mugabi’s arrest saying he is just looking for cheap popularity.
Mugabi who is also the former Guild President Kyambogo University, last year dragged Entebbe Municipal Council to court over unfair allocation of Lockup shops in Kitooro Taxi park, a legal battle council lost with orders to compensate and reinstate market vendors who originally occupied the Taxi Park before it was redeveloped and reopened early last year.
Mugabi described the act of soldiers besieging his home as a serious threat to constitutional freedoms, the rule of law, and the safety of citizens who choose to speak out peacefully.
Currently, Mugabi’s home can’t be accessed by anyone because mean looking masked soldiers have surrounded it.
