BUTEBO
The Electoral Commission has cancelled elections for LCV, District Councilors and Women Councilors in the Eastern Uganda district of Butebo found in the greater Pallisa.
According to a letter issued by the EC Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon dated 22nd January, 2026, the cancellation, “resulted in the damage to and loss of electoral materials, including ballot papers.”
“In view of the above and in order to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, the Electoral Commission has taken the decision to postpone the elections for elective positions in Butebo district,” reads the letter in part.
Justice Byabakama has in the interim said the EC has not yet fixed a new date for these elections but confirms that, “The Commission will communicate a new date for the elections in due course.”
