A serious road traffic accident occurred at Mpologoma police checkpoint along the Mbale-Iganga highway in Kibuku District on January 21, 2026, at around 4:30 pm.
According to Alfred Kyempasa, Bukedi North police sporkspeon, a blue Isuzu bus (UAU 398M) driven by Bakaaki Yunusu, 36, a Musoga from Jinja City, was traveling to Kampala when it collided with a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UEV 044S) ridden by an unidentified person, who was heading to Mbale.
He says the motorcycle rider and a female passenger, whose particulars are not yet established, suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Mbale Main Hospital.
The accident is believed to have been caused by the motorcycle rider’s careless and inconsiderate use of the road, as he attempted to force his way through the tyre cutters at the checkpoint.
Police officers at the scene managed the situation, and the vehicles have been parked at Tirinyi Police Station pending inspection.
