The Masaka Chief Magistrate Albert Asiimwe has ordered that ballots cast in Kalungu East parliamentary election be subjected to a recount to ascertain the exact number each candidate got.

The order arises from an application filed by former Minister of Defense, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja who disputed the declaration of the NUP flagbearer, Yusufu Kiruruuta Nkeretanyi as the winner of the polls.

According to the Electoral Commission Nkeretanyi won the polls with 15, 473 votes beating Ssempija who scored 13,298 votes.

The magistrate has granted the application and ordered that a recount be conducted at 03pm, today, Tuesday, 27th January 2026 at Kalungu district Electoral Commission offices.
