Eng Matsiko Confirmed as UETCL CEO

The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) Board of Directors yesterday Friday confirmed Eng Richard Matsiko as the company’s substantive Chief Executive Officer.

 

In a statement dated Friday, January 30, 2026, the UETCL secretary, Ms Stella Aseru, said the board had approved his appointment following his period in an acting role.

 

The UETCL Board of Directors has confirmed Eng. Richard Matsiko as the Chief Executive Officer, UETCL,” the statement reads.

 

Eng Matsiko has been serving as Acting CEO since July 2025, following the resignation of Mr Joshua Karamagi, CFA, whose departure was accepted by the board.

 

According to UETCL, Eng Matsiko is a seasoned electrical engineer with more than three decades of experience in the electricity supply industry. He began his career as a trainee electrical engineer at the former Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) on March 1, 1991.

 

He later transitioned to UETCL as a Principal Protection Engineer and steadily rose through the ranks, serving as Deputy Chief Executive Officer before his appointment as Acting CEO

 

The board said Eng Matsiko is expected to steer the company’s strategic direction in line with UETCL’s Corporate Strategic Plan 2025–2030.

 

“Eng. Richard Matsiko will steer the Company’s strategic direction in line with UETCL’s new Corporate Strategic Plan 2025–2030 towards achieving the company’s vision of being Eastern Africa’s leading electricity Transmission Company,” the statement said.

 

During his career at UETCL, Eng Matsiko has also served as chairperson of the Power Purchase Agreement Committee and chaired the committee responsible for the delivery of the new UETCL head office building.

 

UETCL is a government-owned public limited company established in 2001.

 

It is responsible for bulk purchasing, importing, exporting and transmitting high-voltage electricity above 33kV across Uganda, and operates the national electricity grid.

 

The board called on staff and stakeholders to support the new CEO as he takes on the role.
