NRM’s National Female Youth Candidate has run to Hoima Chief Magistrate’s Court asking for a vote recount in an election she lost by 18 votes.

Ampaire petition

In a petition dated 10th February, 2026 and received by the Hoima Chief Magistrate on Wednesday, 11th February, 2026, Diana Ampaire who lost to Independent, Mercy Kanyesigye contends that it is only fair for a recount to be undertaken because, ‘a big number of votes cast in the Applicants favor were wrongly recorded in favor of Kanyesigye.”

Ampaire avows that the result recorded in the Declaration of Results Form is not a true reflection of the votes cast in her favor arguing that if a recount is done, a true reflection of the results will be ascertained.

She also claims that during the counting of the votes at Hoima Stadium where the elections took place on 6th February, her Polling Agents complained of irregular counting of the votes to the Presiding Officer but were ignored.

Ampaire argues that her pleas to have the votes recounted on the same day before declaration of results were ignored by the Presiding officer who went as far as refusing to acknowledge her letter requesting for the same.

The Chief Magistrate’s Court has set today, 13th February, 2026 as the date when it will rule whether to entertain the application for a re-count or not.
