How Police Canine Unit Arrested Matooke Thieves in Isingiro District

Police at Mbare Police Station in Isingiro District have two suspects in custody in connection with the theft of agricultural produce (matooke) from the farm of Ahiruhangari Abia, a resident of Kyabahesi Bahingi Cell, Kyabahesi Parish, Mbare Sub-county, Isingiro District.

 

According to a police statement, the suspects have been identified as Ruhangariyo Samuel Innocent and Kamukama Alex, alias “Kadogo.” are accused of stealing six (6) bunches of matooke

 

The complainant reported that she woke up to inspect her garden on the morning of Sunday, 15th February, 2026 and discovered that unknown persons had cut and stolen the matooke from her plantation. She immediately reported the matter to Mbare Police Station and requested sniffer dog services to track the suspects.

 

A police sniffer dog was deployed at the scene, picked a strong scent trail, and tracked for a distance of about 200 metres, leading officers to the home of Ruhangariyo Samuel Innocent. A search was conducted, and six bunches of stolen matooke were recovered from inside his room.

 

The suspect, who is a neighbour to the complainant and a habitual offender, implicated his accomplice, Kamukama Alex, who was subsequently arrested.

 

Investigations are ongoing as police prepare the suspects for prosecution.
