Police in Gulu City East Policing Division are holding two suspects in connection with alleged illegal possession of ammunition after a loaded magazine containing 30 rounds was recovered from a residence in Laroo-Pece Division.
The suspects, identified as Opwomungu Josua (18) and Kilama Willy (40), both residents of Pece Prisons Cell, were arrested following a report made by Ouma Bernard Oweka.
Oweka told police that on February 15, 2026, at around 7:00 a.m., he discovered a magazine wrapped in a white cover under his bed while cleaning his room. He immediately reported the matter to authorities.
According to David Ongom Mudong, spokesperson for the Aswa Region Police, preliminary investigations revealed that Oweka had earlier entrusted his house keys to neighbors while away.
Upon returning on February 12, he found his door lock destroyed and several belongings, including two bicycles and clothes missing.
He was later informed by one of the neighbors, Komakech Moses, that the two suspects had been residing in his house during his absence, leading to their arrest.
Police detectives have since recovered and documented the loaded magazine as evidence. Statements are being recorded from the suspects and other relevant witnesses to build a comprehensive case file.
Mudong urged the public to remain calm, assuring that investigations and operations are ongoing to apprehend all possible accomplices.
