KAMPALA: Car Number Plates’ Thief Leaves Behind Contact after Theft, Arrested

A bizarre incident has occurred in Kampala with a car number plates’ thief leaving behind his telephone contact after stealing a number plate from a resident of Busega–Kabale, Rubaga Division, Kampala District leading to his arrest.

 

According to SP Rachael Kawala, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Semuju Steven, a 33-year-old resident of Busega was successfully arrested on Tuesday, 17th February, 2026.

 

She says police used the lead of the contact number (0759-353167) written on the vehicle from which the number plate was stolen to track down the suspect.

 

During the operation, seven stolen number plates were recovered, including: UAH 286S, UA 309BQ, UA 682BZ, UAM 277G, UAN 796B, and UBK 264Y (pair).

 

“On the night of 11/02/2026, unknown persons unlawfully entered the compound of Lutamaguzi Patrick in Busega–Kabale, Rubaga Division, Kampala District, and stole a number plate from his vehicle, Reg. No. UAN 796B, a silver Toyota Opa,” says Kawala.

 

Following arrest, the suspect led security agencies to locations where the stolen number plates had been hidden, in the areas of Busega–Kabale and Kiteemu Kivulu, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

 

The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue, and he will be charged in court accordingly.
