Rubongoya at court to secure Zedriga’s bail

The National Unity Platform, (NUP) Deputy President Northern Uganda has been granted court bail.

Dr. Lina Zedriga, was today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026 granted bail by the Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court on a cash bail of one million shillings.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Augustine Alule Koma, also bonded her four sureties at a non-cash bail of 10 million shillings each.

The Party’s Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, took to his X-Handle and celebrated the achievement.

“We’ve spent the day in Gulu to stand in solidarity with the@NUP_Ug Deputy President, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, who was abducted from her home on 15th January and spent three weeks under incommunicado detention, until she was dumped at Gulu Central Police. Eventually, she was charged with inciting violence and remanded. Finally, she has been granted bail today and is of strong spirit. Aluta continua. Many thanks to our legal team and everyone who does everything to push for the freedom of our people.”

Earlier, the Chief Magistrate Augustine Alule Koma reserved judgment on the bail application following arguments from both the prosecution and defense. The state had argued that Zedriga’s four sureties were unstable and she could interfere with investigations, while the defense maintained that no evidence was presented to support this claim.
