Budadiri Town Council in Sironko District was on Tuesday, 24th February, 2026 thrown into panic after two of their residents who had been chapatti sellers were found dead inside their rented room.
The deceased identified as Brian Gikanyi and Wanambura Ginatio, were found dead in their rented room in Bugiwumi B Cell, Budadiri Town Council, Sironko District by neighbours.
According to Francis Manyaku, the LC3 chairperson of Budadiri Town council, it was neighbors who discovered the deaths and alerted area leaders.
He says the two have been running chapati business at Budadiri Town council.
Sironko District Police Commander, Frank Muzoora confirmed the unfortunate incident saying the duo has been working as chapatti and beans (Kikomando) vendors.
He says they had reportedly left their workplace the previous evening and returned to their room, where they lit a charcoal stove to cook beans.
Muzoora adds that their bodies were discovered the following day, with no external injuries or signs of struggle. The room, which had no windows, showed signs of the beans having been cooked on the stove pointing to suspicion that the two could have died of suffocation.
Police have registered a case of sudden death, and the bodies have been taken to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of death.
Allan Wanambwa, the Sironko Assistant Resident District Commissioner cautioned people against locking themselves inside houses while charcoal stoves are on.
