Legendary Ugandan football coach Mike Hillary Mutebi was on Tuesday 10th March found alive in Kisubi, ending hours of anxiety in the country’s football fraternity after he was earlier reported missing.

Police said Mutebi was recovered a few minutes ago, today, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 near a banana plantation in Kisubi, along the Entebbe Road corridor, and was immediately rushed to hospital where doctors are currently assessing his medical condition.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the development, saying authorities are monitoring the situation while medical teams evaluate the veteran coach.

However, he did not immediately provide details about the circumstances under which Mutebi was found or how he ended up at the location.

Earlier Sunday, Mutebi’s family had raised alarm after the celebrated tactician reportedly went missing and could not be reached on his known phone numbers, prompting an appeal for public help to trace his whereabouts.

Mutebi had attended a Catholic seminar at the beach and was last seen at about 6:30pm as participants prepared to travel back to Kampala. However, upon arrival in Kawempe, he could not be accounted for.

The news triggered widespread concern across Uganda’s football community, with fans, players and administrators sharing messages online seeking information about the respected coach.

Authorities said more details about Mutebi’s health and the circumstances surrounding the incident would be provided once medical assessments and preliminary inquiries are completed.
