The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has vetted Samuel Akena, who has been reappointed as the Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons.
The committee, chaired by Anita Annet Among, reviewed Akena’s appointment during a session held at Parliament on Thursday, 12th March, 2026 as part of the mandatory scrutiny process for senior government officials.
During the vetting exercise, members of the committee assessed Akena’s professional background, leadership record, and suitability to continue serving in the senior position within the Uganda Prisons Service.
Following the session, the committee indicated that its recommendations would be forwarded to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for further action.
Under parliamentary procedure, the Appointments Committee reviews presidential nominations and provides guidance to the President before final confirmation of the appointment.
If confirmed, Akena will continue serving in the leadership team responsible for overseeing prison administration, security, and rehabilitation programmes across the country
