Kataka FC delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, defeating their fierce city rivals, Mbale Heroes 3–0 at Mbale Municipal Stadium to complete a league double in the Elgon derby in the Uganda big-league.
The visitors produced a clinical display, scoring through Ali Ssentamu, Isaac Owinyi, and Michael Olinga to secure an important away victory that strengthens their push in the league campaign.
Kataka beat Mbale heroes 1-0 earlier in the first round.
Kataka head coach, Awachango ‘Toldo’ Godfrey praised his players for earning their first away results in the league this season.
“We were playing Mbale Heroes in a derby here at Mbale Stadium and we managed to win 3–0,” he said after the match. “It was an away win, and we have taken some seasons without getting wins away from home. The players tried their level best to secure this result.”
Toldo said the victory was crucial for Kataka’s ambitions as the team looks to maintain momentum in the league.
“Now we are planning for the next game against Iganga Young. We are focusing on getting another win as we continue pushing towards the Premier League,” he added.
Mbale Heroes head coach, Ssekito Anthony admitted his side endured a difficult day in office.
“There are some days which are bad in the office, and today has been a bad day in office,” he said. “Next time we shall do better than this.”
Mbale heroes sits rock bottom on the table with 17 points from 19 games while Kataka FC sits 4th on table with 31 points from 20 games, 4 points behind table leaders Kigezi home boys.
