In a proactive effort to enhance community understanding of the Parish Development Model (PDM), the production department of Tororo Municipality has launched an extensive sensitization campaign.

This initiative aims to empower residents with the knowledge needed to effectively navigate PDM opportunities and support local economic growth.

At the forefront of this initiative, Joel Ofufu, the Municipality Production Officer, has been actively engaging with community members to remind beneficiaries of the Shilling 1 million revolving fund about their repayment responsibilities.

“It’s important for those who received the funds over three years ago to begin repaying. This will ensure that others in our community can also take advantage of these vital resources,” Ofufu emphasized during a recent training session at Bison C village.

The workshop, attended by numerous residents on Thursday, 19th March, 2026 focused on various PDM enterprises, group formation, and the processes related to both obtaining and repaying the revolving fund.

Participants voiced several concerns related to the program, particularly the delays in disbursement and the challenges posed by non-residents accessing funds intended for locals.

“We must ensure that the true beneficiaries of this program are the residents of our parish,” urged local resident Yusuf Ombogi.

He expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts but also called for an increase in the funding allocated to parishes from Shilling 100 million to Shilling 500 million, to allow broader community participation.

Responding to these concerns, Ofufu assured residents that the government is committed to augmenting the revolving fund.

“We ask for your patience as we work towards securing additional funding,” he stated, reiterating the commitment made by President Yoweri Museveni in his national addresses.

Meanwhile, Tororo Municipal Communication Officer Mathew Okello encouraged residents to actively engage in community groups, highlighting that many government funds are dispensed through these collective entities.

“Joining groups not only enhances opportunities for funding but also fosters a sense of community that drives development,” Okello remarked.
