MBALE CITY

Mbale City authorities have arrested three butcher men found with forged meat stamps with exact features of the official stamp.

The three suspects according to Yahaya Were, Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Northern City Division are; Hamuza Madoi, Sam Wambede and the third one only identified as Sulai all operating butcheries in Namanyoyi.

Mbale city has only one authorized meat stamp, used for stamping meat from abattoirs after health authorities verify it.

Speaking to our reporter today Saturday, 21st March, 2026, Yahaya revealed that the suspects were arrested with fake meat stamps that they were using to stamp smuggled and unsafe meat in the city.

He says the suspects are currently being detained at Nakaloke police station pending investigation.

Some Mbale city authorities, speaking anonymously, say this isn’t the first time fake meat stamps have been impounded arguing that the production department needs to address internal corruption. They claim some officers collude with meat dealers to fake stamps, copying the original ones.

“Meat dealers can’t forge a stamp without colluding with someone from Mbale city’s production department,” an officer said.

This indicates the health of Mbale city residents is at risk, needing immediate attention and response from Mbale city authorities.

Last week, Mbale city impounded over 100 Kilograms of unsafe/rotten meat stamped with “city stamp” at Mbale central market leaving lots of unanswered questions.
