A businesswoman who allegedly participated in the supply of ‘air’ to Iganga Technical Institute leading to a loss of Shs983M has been remanded.

Erina Barugahara Wanzala, Director of Basaam General Merchandise and Supplies Ltd, was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on Friday, 28th March, 2026.

Erina Barugahara Wanzala was slapped with charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and remanded until March 31, 2026, when she will reappear in court alongside her co-accused.

It is alleged that between January 2024 and December 2025, in Iganga District, Wanzala conspired with Eliachu David, Wabwire Benedict, and Ajuna Damali, all senior administrators of Iganga Technical Institute to embezzle Shs983,480,000 from the government institution.

Investigations indicate that Wanzala received the funds through bank transactions and withdrew the money in installments under the guise of payment for food supplies to the institute. However, the said supplies were never delivered during the 2024–2025 period.

The Institute Administrators were earlier charged and remanded for reportedly authorizing payments to Basaam General Merchandise and Supplies Ltd under the false pretense that the company had supplied food items to the institute, whereas this was not the case.

Investigations further established that no such supplies were ever delivered, and the company itself confirmed that it had not engaged in any transactions involving the delivery of food items to the institute.
