The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Bayole Stanley, has officially handed over a fleet of motorcycles to community health workers in a significant move to bolster grassroots healthcare.
The initiative is aimed at shifting the district’s healthcare focus from expensive clinical treatments to proactive disease prevention.
The handover ceremony, held at the Malukhu district headquarters, on Tuesday, 31st March, 2026 was attended by key district leaders, including the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Angella Akurut and the District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Wangisi.
According to Bayole, the motorcycles were procured using Primary Health Care (PHC) development funds.
He says by prioritizing transport for field officers, the district aims to bridge the gap between health facilities and rural households. 7 motorcycles were procured at 6 million each and more are to be procured since PHC funds were totalling to Shs40 million.
The RDC emphasized that these tools are strictly for field operations to ensure no citizen is left behind.
“These motorcycles are yours to be used in the field. Reach those in need and prevent diseases before they take hold,” Mr. Bayole urged. “Curing is very expensive; prevention is not just a policy; it is a necessity.” RDC Bayole said.
The RDC also used the platform to commend the Health Department for its transparency, noting a lack of corruption in the procurement process. He challenged other departments to “take a leaf” from the health sector’s book, ensuring that public funds are utilized correctly for the benefit of the taxpayers.
The DHO, Dr. Wangisi, echoed the RDC’s sentiments, stressing that the cost of treating an outbreak far outweighs the cost of preventing one. To achieve “Total Better Services,” the district leadership outlined a three-pronged approach, recognizing the hard work of community health teams, providing the necessary training and authority to act and removing the physical barriers to service delivery.
The event concluded with a strong call for inter-departmental teamwork.
Both the RDC and Dr. Wangisi emphasized that the supervision triad of the CAO, DHO, and RDC—must work in harmony to ensure efficient service delivery in the district.
