Details emerging about Okello Christopher Onyum indicate that the suspect could be a psychopath who allegedly was involved in the killing of his stepbrother in 2017 under similar circumstances, though no arrest was made at the time.
Okello had just returned from the United States, where he had lived for about 20 years. He returned to Uganda in November 2025 and initially lived in Bunga, Kampala, at his parents’ home.
Christopher later relocated to his ancestral home in Nwoya to take up farming, before returning to Kampala a few days ago.
According to police, he had earlier been taken to the U.S. by his parents to live with his siblings.
He later expressed interest in returning to Uganda to do farming.
Before his parents could formally allow it, he reportedly sneaked back into the country without their knowledge and briefly stayed in an apartment in Bunga, allegedly funded by an embassy.
After some time, he visited his parents, who were shocked to see him back in Uganda.
He informed them of his plan to relocate to Nwoya for farming, and the following day, they drove him there, gave him land, and he began farming.
After some time in Nyoya, Christopher returned to Kampala and rented an apartment in Kyanja about two weeks ago.
His move to the child centre:
He visited the daycare on Tuesday, inquiring about admission for a child.
On Thursday, he paid Shs180,000 via mobile money and also bought two large padlocks.
He later returned to the school pretending to complete the admission process, but instead carried out the attack.
He stabbed four children to death and is currently in police custody.
It has also been alleged that Christopher was involved in the killing of his stepbrother in 2017 under similar circumstances, though no arrest was made at the time.
